Manage Kitchen Essentials (SG Enable)

Course Overview

The course offers a comprehensive exploration of essential kitchen skills, covering everything from assembling and using kitchen tools and ingredients to mastering knife techniques, proper ingredient storage, and food safety measures. Participants will also learn effective workstation management and waste segregation practices to enhance kitchen efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Course Objectives

This course will empower learners to build essential life skills, enabling them to live and work independently in the kitchen, by being able to:

  • Develop Basic Kitchen Skills to independently assemble and use essential kitchen tools, equipment, and ingredients for daily food preparation
  • Enhance Food Preparation Techniques to safely apply knife skills and prepare ingredients efficiently, ensuring they can cook and prepare meals with confidence
  • Promote Proper Food Storage to store ingredients and finished products correctly, prolonging shelf life and maintaining food quality
  • Implement Food Safety and Waste Prevention to avoid food wastage, cross-contamination, and promote safe food handling during storage and preparation
  • Encourage Workstation Management to develop participants' skills in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workstation, reinforcing the importance of hygiene in kitchen environments
  • Instill Environmental Responsibility to teach effective waste segregation techniques to promote sustainable practices and environmental responsibility in daily kitchen operations.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, trainees will be able to:

  • Assemble kitchen tools, equipment and ingredients
  • Apply knife skills to prepare ingredients
  • Store ingredients and finished products correctly to prolong shelf life
  • Preventive measures to avoid food wastage and cross- contamination during storage
  • Reinstate the workstation to keep the work area clean
  • Segregation of waste

Who should attend

This programme is suitable for Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident aged 16 years old and above with:

  • Mild Intellectual Disabilities (IQ Range 50-70)
  • Mild Autism (Level 1) - Unemployed persons with the above disabilities
  • In-employment persons with the above disabilities (self-sponsored)
  • In-employment persons with the above disabilities (company-sponsored)

Currently not pursuing full-time education or enrolled in any government or Special Education schools.

Course fee funding is only available for eligible persons with disabilities (Mild Intellectual Disability and Autism Level 1) who are approved by SGEnable.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants should be Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 16 years and above.

Applicants are required to possess the following skills:

  • Basic Literacy and Numeracy Skills
  • Basic Fine Motor Skills: involving the small muscles of the hands, fingers, and wrists. These skills are needed for precise and delicate movements
    • Examples: Writing, Wearing and Tying of Apron, Using utensils like forks and knives, Handling small objects like kitchen tools or measuring ingredients
  • Basic Gross Motor Skills to participate in classroom activities.
    • Examples include: Ability to carry out tasks that involve lifting or carrying objects, Ability to perform tasks while standing

  • 15 hours Training
  • 1 hour assessment

Registration Fee

A Registration Fee of $10.90 (Incl. of 9% GST) will be collected upon course registration, and It is non-refundable.
* In the event of any class cancellation by Eduquest, the Registration fee will be refunded

Admin Fee for Absent and Reschedule: $32.70

Admin Fee for Make-up Session for Partial Absent, Appeal & Re-assessment: $54.50

Miscellaneous Fees refer to any non-compulsory fees which the trainees pay only when applicable. Such fees are normally collected by Eduquest when the need arises.
