Workplace Safety and Health for Food and Beverage Operations Level 2

Course Overview

This course is only intended for the low wage workers in the PWM-Food Services Sector.

This course equips learners with the knowledge and skills to ensure workplace safety and health compliance. Participants will understand WSH policies, recognize potential hazards, apply risk control measures, and follow safety instructions. They will also learn to identify unsafe practices, use appropriate PPE, and maintain a safe work environment through adherence to safety signs and procedures.

Course Objectives

The objective of the programme is to ensure that all employees in the food service sector are aware of the importance of workplace safety and are able to understand and comply with workplace safety procedures and processes in restaurants and kitchens

  • Mini lectures with presentations to explain concepts and theories
  • Practical activities including demonstrations, hands-on practice and observation
  • Mutual sharing, discussion and feedback

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the programme, the learners will be able to:

  •  Define Workplace Safety and Health policies and procedures
  •  Identify one's roles and responsibilities in workplace safety
  •  Explain the importance of adhering to WSH policy and procedures
  •  Identify potential hazards and risk associated within the work area
  •  Identify non-compliances, unsafe work conditions and practices during compliance inspection within work area
  •  Apply risk control measures at the workplace
  •  Follow safety signs, instructions to risk control measures to maintain a safe work environment
  •  Identify correct PPE and safety devices when operating tools and equipment at the workplace
  •  Observe safety signs and warnings at the workplace

Minimum Entry Requirement

Participants should have a minimum: - GCE N Level pass (Grade 1 to 5) in English or equivalent, or - ES WSQ Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 4 and above - Participants who do not meet the above requirements will be required to go through a short interview.

Assessment

The following assessment will be held at the end of the course:

  • Written Assessment - 10 questions
  • Role Play - 8 tasks

  •  Existing food service sector employeees who would like to upskill and/or obtain a recognised certification
  •  New hires without any prior experience
  •  Matured students going through mid-career change and/or women back-to-work

Admin Fee for Absent and Reschedule: $32.70

Admin Fee for Make-up Session for Partial Absent, Appeal & Re-assessment: $54.50
